Answer #1

Ans) The purpose of hypothesis testing is to aid the clinician in reaching a conclusion concerning the universe by examining a sample from that universe.

- A hypothesis may be defined as a presumption or statement about the truth in the universe. For example, a clinician may hypothesize that a certain drug may be effective in 80% of the cases of schizophrenia. It is frequently concerned about the parameters in the population about which the presumption or statement is made. It is the basis for motivating the research project. There are two types of hypotheses, research hypothesis and statistical hypothesis.

- Confidence interval is a range of values, derived from sample statistics, that is likely to contain the value of an unknown population parameter. Because of their random nature, it is unlikely that two samples from a given population will yield identical confidence intervals.

- Confidence interval just doesn’t roll of the tongue of a staff nurse quite like blood pressure or urine output does.

But knowing the importance of the CI allows you to interpret research for its impact on your practice. Evidence-based decision making is central to healthcare transformation. To make good decisions, you must know how to interpret and use research and practice evidence.

- Evaluating research means determining its validity (where the researchers’ methods good ones?) and reliability (can clinicians get the same results the researchers got?).
