Step 1:

Mannitol 20% in 500mL solution.

Amount of mannitol in 500mL = 500 X 20 / 100

= 100g

Amount of mannitol is 100g in 500mL.

Step 2:

Calculate the Amount of mannitol to be administered

Amount = Ordered dose / Dose on hand X Quantity

Ordered dose = 30g

Dose on hand = 100g

Quantity = 500

Amount = 30 / 100 X 500

= 150mL

The patient's receive 150mL of mannitol.

20. Acetazolamide is a carbonic Anhydrase inhibitor is the most probably used diuretic prescribed for open-angle glaucoma. It is used to reduce the fluid-filled eye and also decrease the level of potassium. The most common side effects are light headaches, dry mouth, loss of appetite, vomiting, hearing loss, confusion. The nurse should consider of intraocular pressure, potassium level, blood sugar level before administering acetazolamide.
