Answer #1

Yes,it is true.Ipratropium bromide causes the skin and mucous membranes to dry.

Ipratropium bromide is an anticholinergic drug used as a bronchodilator commonly used in COPD patients. It is mainly used as an inhaler which relieve bronchospasm by opening up the brochioles. Its common side effects are dry mouth, cough, hoarseness, headache, nausea constipation etc.

Mechanism of action

Neurotransmitter acetyl choline binds to muscarinic receptors which causes the constriction of bronchus thus causes bronchospasm and increased mucus secretion whereby patient experience severe breathing difficulty. In this case,we use anticholinergics such as ipratropium bromide, a muscarinic receptor blockers ie it blocks acetyl choline to binds muscarinic receptors and thereby relieving bronchospasm and decreased mucus secretion, which lead to dry skin and mucus membranes.
