patient who is a child weighing 30 pounds (13.60 kg) is having an infection for which he is prescribed antibiotic Rocephin (ceftriaxone) in the dose of 1 g IV every 12 hours. The recommended dose of Rocephin is 50-75 mg/kg/day, that is the patient can receive a minimum dose of 50 mg/kg or a maximum dose of 75 mg/kg once or twice in 24 hours but total dose should not exceed 2 g / day (that is a child can receive upto 2 g per day or 150 mg/kg/day, not more than that) .

The child in question is receiving 1 g every 12 hours means he is receiving total 2 g Rocephin in 24 hours. As per body weight the patient is receiving 147.05 mg/kg/day (2g= 2000mg, 30 pounds =13.60kg, 2000/13.60= 147.059)

Therefore, the prescribed order is safe as it is not exceeding 2 g per day
