Altered thinking or confusion in diabetes patients indicate that their blood glucose level has been decreased or as a symptom of hypoglycemia. As the brain needs glucose to function normally as vital as oxygen, deterioration in glucose levels in the brain causes confusion. In the above-stated options, a 25-year-old female who is acting inappropriately indicates her blood glucose levels dropped so it is an indication for administering oral glucose. Do not administer oral glucose in unresponsive and unconscious patients (options B and D)as they cannot swallow and causes aspiration. Abdominal pain (option A) maybe for a different cause and not an indication for oral glucose administration. Option C is the correct answer.
