They believed that people who takes blood into the body (which we called as blood transfusion) will loss their eternal life and also will dis-fellowshipped from the church. So, these people was always against to blood transfusion.
Legally patients have the rights to accept or refuse the treatment. Accept to the treatment plan always the ultimate priority in curing a disease. It always depends on the acceptance of treatment by the patient. In such cases, if a Jehovah Witness patient got admitted in hospital in any emergency situations, it may risk their life due to blood loss because of such religious beliefs. a) Thorough history and physical examination should be done to find out any family history of bleeding complications or any hereditary risks of bleeding disorders.
b) Patient medication should be noted 4 weeks prior to the surgery. For instance, any use of anti-coagulant or aspirin coated medications or Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. If he is on these medications, it should be stopped.
c) Preoperative care can be done 3 weeks prior if there is any risk of blood loss while conducting a procedure.
d) If there is any anemia detected, instead of blood transfusion, medication regiment to treat anemia or adequate iron diet can be recommended.
