PLEASE HELP!!!!After reading the selection on deontology and Kant's ethics, you will in this short writing assignment explain 1) What makes Kant's theory deontological (what does that mean?), (2) explain Kant' s second formulation of the Categorical imperative and what it means to treat someone as an end v. as a mere means to another's end and (3) apply Kan't Categorical Imperative to the case below. Your paper should be submitted in MS Word, and should be around a page (or a bit less), double spaced. You do not need an introduction, you just need to answer the questions clearly and fully. Note: if you cite the excerpt on deontology, just note that in parentheses. Or, you can cite the video lecture, as well. You do not need outside sources. Case: Should Doctors Take 'No' for an Answer? "I don't want to be treated," Alicia Nuvo said. "According to the statistics you gave me, even with the best treatment, I've got no more than a few months and 10% survival rate." "Yes, pancreatic cancer is a tough customer, Dr. Lupe said. "I wish the numbers were better." "So why should I suffer the pain and nausea of chemotherapy and then radiation if I'm going to die anyway?" Nuvo laughed grimly. "It's absurd. I'd rather spend the remaining time with my husband and two daughters, then die in peace, rather than puking my guts out in the hospital." "We can use drugs to control the nausea from the chemotherapy," said Dr. Lupe. "And we don't know that the statistics apply to you. They apply to a whole group of people, and I never tell a patient that she has a 10 percent chance." "Just give me something to control the pain and let me go home," Nuvo said, "I don't want to talk about it anymore." Question: According to Kant's Second Formulation of the Categorical Imperative, how should Dr. Nuvo proceed at this point? Apply the imperative fully to this case.

Answer #1

Immaneul kant's dentological theory was derived from human reasons in the year 1788.

Immaneul kant who born in 1725 has made categorial imperitives. The categorial imperitives has three formulations. The second formulation of the imperitive explained as act in such a way you treat humanity whether in your own person or in the person of other, never merely as a means to an end but always at the same time as an end.

Based on kants second formulation of categorial imperitive no one has to end their life for the sake of other life. Dr. Nuvo can do whatever he want to do. There is no need for him to face the pain and nausea due to chemotherapy where there is only 10% of survival rate. Dr.lupe must treat him with humanity.
