Answer #1

Equations 1,2,3,4 are Souders-Brown equations for gas-liquid separators

Notations used

  • d = vertical separator diameter, ft
  • L = oil height , ft
  • Qg = max gas flow rate, MMscf/d = 35 MMscf/d =35/ 86400 (MMscf/second)
  • QL = max oil flow rate, barrel/d = 25000 barrel/d = (25000)/(86400) barrel/second
  • P = operating pressure, psig = 160 psig
  • ρl = oil density, lbm/ft3
  • ρv = gas density, lbm/ft3
  • K = Souders-Brown equation constant, feet/sec
  • FG = Fraction of cross section area available for gas flow and FG = 1 for vertical separators
  • Vg max = maximum gas flow velocity ft/s
  • t = Residence time= 1 min = 60 second
  • Specific gravity = density of fluid / density of water

so ρl = (Specific gravity) * (density of water) = 0.9 * 62.4= 56.16 lb/ft3

ρv = 0.7 * 62.4 = 43.68 lb/ft3
