Your team of consultants has been hired to create a database for MD Employment Agency (MDEA). MDEA is an employment agency that contracts with the city of Miami, FL to assist displaced workers in finding new career opportunities and to help workers currently collecting unemployment benefits. Up to this point MDEA has been using standalone PCs to handle data entry of new clients and to update their status. The company also has relationships with local government agencies that have openings through the City’s Website of vacant positions. MDEA has over 100 businesses in the area in their system in an excel spreadsheet that is located on the managers computer which is shared by her administrative assistant (she is responsible for updating the spreadsheet with new clients). They need you to create a database that will track their clients seeking employment (both displaced workers that may need re-training and those that are on unemployment but have employable skills). Many of the displaced workers are from manufacturing company closures and downsizing so their specific skills may not be useful in the current economy. 1. Your deliverables are to create a database that tracks the displaced workers and current partner job openings (government and private industry, see attached document for the data). You are not responsible for determining what skills each potential worker has or needs, just set up the database so that MDEA can enter the data. B. Your job is to do the following (in your group):

1. Create a database that will track the clients (displaced and other unemployed persons), as well as a listing of government agencies and local businesses that have openings. The database can be done in Access or MySQL (your choice). Create at least 2 reports from the data, 2 queries, and 2 forms. Make sure to do a DFD (context level) and ERD first and then walk through the SDLC for the system.

2. Make sure that you carefully think through the needs of the company and record the process that your team took to accomplish the project.

3. You will be turning in an outline of what you did for the project, as well as a copy of the database (in CANVAS). Include in your outline a list of the team and what players did what (for this project appoint 1 person as project manager – should not be the same person as project 1, however, if 1 person wants to act as project manager twice, that is OK). Test data is included in the attached Excel sheet, you will need to import into your database. If you need additional information, make it up but keep it simple. a. Design the system first (set up a project timeline, make sure that you understand the problem, etc.) Make a Gantt chart for the project, and assign deliverables. b. You may use Access, MySQL or another tool to build the database. c. The project manager is to provide a write up of the process. Include problems, successes, and other observations about the project. Also include a Gantt chart (use Microsoft Project or another tool) showing the timeline you followed to build the site. At the end include a statement that explains what you would have done differently and any major obstacles that occurred during the project.
