Answer #1

I have used minitab to perform paired t test for difference between means for before and after weight.

A. Paired t test because there are two related samples of same person before and after two month gap to study effect of new oral contraceptive.

Paired T-Test and CI: 2 month wt, Initial wt

Claim : New oral contraceptive will produce weight gain

Descriptive Statistics

Sample N Mean StDev SE Mean
2 month wt 10 144.80 10.97 3.47
Initial wt 10 140.20 11.05 3.50

Estimation for Paired Difference

Mean StDev SE Mean 95% Lower Bound
for μ_difference
4.60 3.78 1.19 2.41

µ_difference: mean of (2 month wt - Initial wt)

Test

Null hypothesis H₀: μ_difference = 0
Alternative hypothesis H₁: μ_difference > 0
T-Value P-Value
3.85 0.002

Conclusion : Since p value (0.002) is < 0.05, we will reject null hypothesis. Thus new oral contraceptive does produce any significant weight gain
