Solubility generalizations
1. Ionic compounds containing carbonate ion (CO32-) are typically insoluble except when combined with Na+, K+, and NH4+.
2. Ionic compounds containing phosphate ion (PO43-) are typically insoluble except when combined with Na+, K+, and NH4+.
3. Ionic compounds containing oxalate ion (C2O42-), chromate ion (CrO42-) are typically insoluble except when combined with Na+, K+, and NH4+
4. Most sulfides (S2-) of transition metals are highly insoluble.
5. Most hydroxide salts are slightly soluble. Hydroxide salts of group 1 and group 2 are slightly soluble. Hydroxide salts of transition metals and Al3+ are insoluble.
6. All salts of group 1 NH4+, K+ and Na+ are mostly soluble.
7. Salts containing anion nitrate (NO32-), chlorate (ClO3-), perchlorate (ClO4-), and acetate (CH3CO2-) are soluble.
8. All salts containing anion Cl-, Br- and I- are soluble. Exceptional halides of Ag+, Pb+, and Hg+ are insoluble.
9. All silver salts are insoluble. Except AgNO3 and Ag(CH3CO2) are soluble.
10. Salts containing sulfate anion are soluble. Except sulfate salts containing cations Ca2+, Sr2+, Ba2+, Pb2+ and Ag+ are insoluble.
