Answer #1

Part A : mole percent O2, mole percent H2 = 31.2 , 68.8 %

Explanation

Given : Total pressure = 3.00 atm

excess hydrogen pressure = 0.193 atm

pressure of hydrogen and oxygen which forms water = (Total pressure) - (excess hydrogen pressure)

pressure of hydrogen and oxygen which forms water = (3.00 atm) - (0.193 atm)

pressure of hydrogen and oxygen which forms water = 2.807 atm

The balanced equation for formation of water is : 2 H2 (g) + O2 (g) \rightarrow 2 H2O (g)

Let pressure of O2 = x

Then, pressure of H2 = 2x

total pressure = (pressure of O2) + (pressure of H2)

total pressure = x + 2x

total pressure = 3x

total pressure = pressure of hydrogen and oxygen which forms water

3x = 2.807 atm

x = (2.807 atm) / 3

x = 0.9357 atm

pressure of O2 = x = 0.9357 atm

mole fraction O2 = (pressure of O2 / Total pressure)

mole fraction O2 = (0.9357 atm / 3.00 atm)

mole fraction O2 = 0.312

mole percent O2 = mole fraction O2 * 100

mole percent O2 = 0.312 * 100

mole percent O2 = 31.2 %
