how many mild outliers are in this data set?

Mild outliers are data points that are more extreme than than Q1 - 1.5 * IQR or Q3 + 1.5 * IQR, but are not extreme outliers.

From Minitab we calculated Quartile 1, 3 and Interquartile range IQR.

Variable Q1 Q3 IQR
Sample data 32.75 46.42 13.67

Q1 - 1.5 * IQR or Q3 + 1.5 * IQR,

32.75-1.5*13.67 or 32.75+1.5*13.67

12.245 or 53.25

So from the sample 5 mild outliers are 53.8,56.4,56.7,70.26,87.21.

Answer :

Mild outliers are data points that are more extreme than than Q1 - 1.5 * IQR or Q3 + 1.5 * IQR, but are not extreme outliers.

how many extreme outliers are in this data set?

Answer:

Extreme outliers are data points that are more extreme than Q1 - 3 * IQR or Q3 + 3 * IQR.

Variable Q1 Q3 IQR
Sample data 32.75 46.42 13.67

Q1 - 3 * IQR or Q3 + 3 * IQR.

32.75-3*13.67 or 32.75+3*13.67

-8.24 or 73.76

From the sample there one extreme Outlier 87.21.

Hope this will be helpful Thanks and God Bless you :)

A gardener plants 300 sunflower seeds (of a brand called KwikGrow) and, after 2 weeks, measures the seedlings’ heights (in mm). These heights are recorded below. He is interested in testing whether the mean height of sunflowers grown from KwikGrow seeds is greater than 33 mm two weeks after planting. He decides to conduct a hypothesis test by assuming that the sampling distribution of the sample mean has a normal distribution. For the purposes of this question, you may assume...

A previous researcher has published a report demonstrating that students’ interest in studying mathematics is related to his or her interest in general academics. Furthermore, this researcher also claimed that interest in studying English-related subjects (literature, journalism, etc.) was not related to interest in mathematics. However, after reading the article, you believe the findings contradict your experience, and you believe there was a methodological flaw in the analysis. In particular, you believe it was necessary for the researcher to have...
