Question
A charge configuration with two charges of opposite sign but the same magnitude, q, and a separation distance, d, is called an electric dipole. The electric dipole moment, or EDM, is a vector, p, with a magnitude p = qd and a direction from the negative charge towards the positive charge. When such a dipole is placed in a region of electric field, it will experience a torque which depends upon the angle, θ, between the directions of the EDM, p, and the electric field, E.
