a) Write of one block of data, but to calculate parity after writing we need to access all the four blocks of data. So the answer is four.

b)there are four blocks, Four blocks are striped at a stretch. To calculate parity need to access all the four blocks and remaining three blocks are striped next. Again to calculate parity we need to access unused block also. So the answer is eight.
