Probability Sampling You are interested in finding out the proportion of the population of UTSA students who are enrolled in majors within the College of Liberal and Fine Arts (COLFA). The UTSA registrar provides you a list of all registered students for Fall 2017. From this list, you select a random sample of 300 students and administer surveys to all of them. When you analyze your surveys you find that 22% of your sample identify as COLFA majors. You later check with the registrar’s office and find that according to official enrollment data, 20% of enrolled students in Fall 2017 were COLFA majors.

Population parameter: 20%

Sample statistic: 22%

Answer #1

We have given sample size n = 300 , Population parameter P = 0.20 , sample statistic p^ = 0.22

We have asked to find sampling error.

We know that -

Sampling error =  \sqrt [P * ( 1 - P )] / n

=  \sqrt[ 0.20 * ( 1 - 0.20 ) ] /300

=  \sqrt0.000533

= 0.0231 (Rounded to 4 decimal places )

Hope this will help you. Thank you :)

Suppose you are interested in finding out how happy the students are at UNR. You design a survey that probes aspects of an individual’s emotional life, and using this survey are able to compute an accuracy index score ranging from 0 (completely miserable) to 100 (nauseatingly happy). You know that the standard deviation of the population (sigma) equals 8; however you do not know, and want to know, what the mean of the population (mu) is. Rather than give the...
