Corrective maintenance happens whenever a member who is a user or an IT staff reports an issue during using the software. But, other kind of maintenances such as adaptive, perfective and preventive maintenance every time does the procedures according to the standard maintenance of organization.

Baseline modules consist of tested and documented software modules. They are also allowed to be the part of current system version. Build routines consists of guidelines that enumerate the set of instructions for developing a system which is from the baseline source code and system librarian keeps the duplicates of previous versions of every system modules. He also keeps build routines. During the development or maintenance of a system, it is the responsibility of system librarian to manage the checking in and checking out of baseline modules for that system.

Maintenance means the modifications done to a system for fix or enhancing functionality. Whereas, maintainability is the simplicity of the software where a person is able to understand, correct, adapt, and enhance software easily.

Maintenance process: The process of coming back to the beginning of the system development life cycle and it also concentrate on the requirements of system modifications and repeat the development stages until the implementation of modifications.

Main steps occur in this process are :

1. Getting maintenance requests
2. Transform requests into modifications
3. Design modifications
4. Implement modifications

The seven phases of SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle) are:

1. make plans
2. gather requirements
3. design and development
4. test phase
5. Deployment of software
6. Maintenance.

SDLC has the plans to explain the way for development, maintenance and replacement of a particular software system.

Adaptive maintenance deals with the alteration in the software that occurs to allow the software adaptable to another environment whereas perfective maintenance is done during the addition of new functionalities in software and to prevent the happenings of errors preventive maintenance is used. Corrective maintenance happens whenever a member who is a user or an IT staff reports an issue during using the software.

The factors that influence the cost of maintenance are:

1. Latent Defects: the internal defects or technical issues which are likely to happen.
2. Number of customers for a given system: people who utilize the system at a given point of time.
3. Quality of the documentation of system.

Since a fine documented system enables every other feature of the system to be detectable with full evidence, the major factor is the quality of system documents. So whenever internal problems arise, perfect documentation aids in easy recovery and maintenance costs also minimized. Moreover, by perfect documentation, every communication is done correctly by sending them to purposive users.
