Answer #1

For a particle of rest mass m0 moving with velocity v, relativistic momentum is given by

mou PJ1 - ps

c is the velocity of light

Rest mass of electron is 0.511 MeV and that of proton is 938 MeV

For both of their momentum to be similar we must have

0.511 xv 938 x 0.50 V1 - 0.52

0.511v or, = 541.550

20.511100 or, V1-2-541.55()

Squaring both sides,

Or, 1 = 8.9 x 10-7()

1= (4.) (-01*6+1) 6.0

or, 2 = 0.999999555

or, v = 0.9999999555c

    Problem 4) An electron travels in a straight line with a relativistic speed v past a stationary proton. Assume that the electron passes by so quickly that its motion is unaffected by the presence of the proton, and that the proton is so heavy that it moves only negligibly as the electron passes by. If the distance of closest approach is b, calculate the momentum imparted to the proton in terms of v, b, and fundamental constants. Hint: Use eq....
