Answer #1

The basic building blocks used by chemists to make plastics are called monomers. When we combine these monomers we get plastics or polymers. Mostly the very basic part of these monomers is the carbon atom which due to its special property of forming very long chain substances, lead to a wide variety of plastics with very different properties and applications.

In addition to monomers to get specific properties, various additives are introduced into the polymer melt like Antioxidants, Colorants, Foaming agents, Plasticizers, Lubricants, Anti-stats, Antimicrobials, and Flame Retardants.

All these are the basic building blocks to the plastics we use in our day to day life.
