Given that

Mass of back pack is m= 10.0 kg

height h= 20.0 m

-------------------------------------------------

The work done by the gravity on the backpack is

           W = mg (d cos(180- θ))

                 =- mg d cosθ

But from the above diagram d cosθ = h

           W= -mgh

               = -(10.0 kg)(9.80 m/s2)(20.0 m)

               = -1960.0 J

The work done by hiker is simply the opposite of the work done by the gravity

Threrefore ,work done by hiker = 1960.0

Net work done = W by hiker + W by earth = 0 joules
