Question
In Appendix C, see the simply supported beam with a uniformly distributed load. Be careful with units and the sign convention. For this calculation, the overhung part of the beam from C to D can be ignored, and the beam is treated as a simply supported beam of length 2L1. Be careful with units and the sign convention.
The simply supported beam consists of a W530 × 66 structural steel wide-flange shape [ E = 200 GPa; I = 351 × 10 6 mm 4]. Assume w = 40 kN/m, L 1 = 2.7 m, and L 2 = 2.7 m. For the loading shown, determine:
(a) the beam deflection at point B.
(b) the beam deflection at point D
Find:
1.VB1
2.Magnitude of bending moment at point C
3.VB2
4.total beam defelction VB
5.Component of rotation thetaC1 between point A and C
6.Determine the component of the beam deflection at point D produced by the component of the rotation angle of the beam at point C due to only the portion of the uniformly distributed load w between the supports at point A and point C
7.Determine the component of the beam rotation angle at point C due to the moment produced at point C by the portion of the uniformly distributed load w between point C and point D.
8.Determine the component of the beam deflection at point D due to the moment produced at point C by the portion of the uniformly distributed load w between point C and point D
9.Determine the cantilever deflection of the beam at point D due to the portion of the uniformly distributed load wbetween point C and point D. This is the deflection that would be calculated at point D assuming a fixed support at Cand the distributed load w between C and D
10.Determine the total beam deflection at point D.
