In pentose phosphate pathway a metabolic pathway that generates NADPH and five-carbon sugars such as ribose 5-phosphate from glucose 6-phosphate; also refered to as hexose monophosphate shunt and the phosphogluconate pathway / it includes oxidative reactions which produce NADPH and ribose 5-phosphates as well as nonoxidative reactions which together convert five-carbon sugar phosphates to gluconeogenic precursors of glucose 6-phosphate.
Glucose + 2 NADP+ + H2O ----> ribose 5-phosphate + 2 NADPH + 2 H + + CO2
the Calvin cycle uses NADPH to reduce carbon dioxide to generate hexoses, whereas the pentose phosphate pathway breaks down glucose into carbon dioxide to generate NADPH.
On the other hand calvin cycle ( dark reactions .i.e. light independent of photosynthesis in green plants)
6 CO2 + 18 ATP + 12 NADPH + 12 H2O -----> C6H12O6 + 18 ADP + 18 Pi + 12 NADP+ + 6 H+
Which Calvin cycle steps are similar to those of the pentose phosphate pathway? Please list all...
The reversible interconversion reactions of the pentose phosphate pathway can operate either to converi Map pentoses to hexoses (when operating in an oxidative mode to generate NADPH) or to convert hexoses to pentoses (when operating in a non-oxidative mode to generate pentoses for nucleic acid synthesis). Two key enzymes in these interconversion reactions are transaldolase and transketolase, and a key intermediate is the seven-carbon sugar sedoheptulose-7-phosphate. Identify the products formed from sedoheptulose-7-phosphate and glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate with each of these enzymes.
Which is NOT an additional function of the pentose phosphate pathway? catabolism of less common four- and seven-carbon sugars. synthesis of hexose sugars for nucleotide biosynthesis. synthesis of pentose sugars for nucleotide biosynthesis. catabolism of pentose sugars from the diet. synthesis of less common four-and seven-carbon sugars.
Which of the following conversions does not occur in the non-oxidative branch of the pentose phosphate pathway? O O C7+C3 C4+C6 C5+C5 C7+03 C4+C5 C3+C6 C7+C5 C6 C6 All of the above describe steps in the pentose phosphate pathway.
Which of these enzymes is notpart of the Calvin cycle? Aldolase Glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate dehydrogenase Phosphofructokinase-1 Ribulose-5-phosphate kinase Transketolase
QUESTION 5 This question explores the Calvin cycle in plants. A summary of the three stages of CO, assimilation in photosynthetic organisms is shown below (Fig. 20-31 from the text book). All the reactions of the Calvin cycle in detail are shown on the last page. Only the first three reactions are directly involved in carbon-fxation, assimilation and reduction, to Stage 3: ATP3 Regeneration of (3) Stage 1a Ribulose 1.5 e (GAP). The rest of the pathway results in the...

Please post answers as they relate to the question. The light reactions of photosynthesis generate ATP and NADPH. The dark reactions utilize these products to drive the conversion of CO_2 into carbohydrate in a set of reactions known as the Calvin cycle. The overall balanced equation for the Calvin cycle can be written as follows: 3CO_2 + 9 ATP + 6NADPH rightarrow glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate + 9ADP + 6NADP^+ + 8Pi Identify the steps of the cycle which utilize CO_2, ATP, and...
