Problem 5(25 points) A rigid tank initially contains a partition that separates water at two different states. One side of the partition initially contains 4.5 lbm of steam at 150 psia and 600°F. The other side of the partition contains 7 lbm of saturated liquid 25 percent. The pressure at the final state is 50 psia. -vapor mixture at 300°F with a vapor mass fraction of partition is removed, and mixing occurs until equilibrium is established. The a) b) Determine the temperature and quality (if applicable) of the water at the final state. (15 points) Determine the amount of heat lost from the tank during this process. (10 points)

Answer #2

Two tanks (Tank A and Tank B) are separated by a partition. Initially Tank A contains 2 kg of steam at 1MPa and 300C while Tank B contains 3 kg of saturated liquid-vapor mixture at 150C with a vapor mass fraction of 50 percent. The partition is now removed and the two sides are allowed to mix until mechanical and thermal equilibrium are established.

A rigid tank contains a partition that divides the tank into two sections, each having a volume of 2 ft3 . The left side contains 1.5 lbm of refrigerant R-134a at a pressure of 50 psia, and the right side contains 4 lbm of refrigerant R-134a at 30 psia. The partition is removed and the contents are allowed to mix. Heat transfer occurs with the surroundings until the entire tank contents reach a new equilibrium temperature of 60 °F. For...

An insulated rigid tank is divided into two equal parts by a partition. Initially, one part contains 15 kg of water vapor with steam quality 20% at 20 bar and the other part is evacuated. The partition is removed, and the water vapor expands into the entire tank.a) Determine the final temperature and pressure using higher accuracy calculation. b) Recalculate (a) by assuming the gas behave as ideal gas

A rigid tank with a total volume of 0.8m3 initially contains water in the form of a saturated liquid-vapour mixture at P1=500kPa. The liquid portion of the mixture initially occupies a volume of only 0.5L (the remainder is vapour). Steam from a supply line at Pi=1000kPa and Ti=500°C is then injected into the tank until the pressure in the tank reaches P2=800kPa. At this point (final state), the mass in the tank is m2=2.8kg. a) Find the initial quality x1...

(1 point) A rigid, insulated 0.43 m tank initially contains saturated water liquid at 362 kPa. The tank is connected to a steam pipe line carrying steam at 1.53 MPa and 305 °C through a valve. When the valve is opened, steam enters the tank from the pipe. When the valve is closed, the tank is filled with a saturated vapor with a pressure of 0.8 MPa. How much mass was added to the tank during this process?
