Two satellites orbit Earth at altitudes of 5700 kmand 1.8×104 km.Which stellite is faster and by what factor?
Ans :-
v = sqrt(GM/R)
v = velocity in m/s
G = 6.673e-11 Nm²/kg²
M is mass of central body in kg
R is radius of orbit in m
earth radius 6,371,000 m
divide the two and we get
V1 is speed of sat at 5700 km
V2 is speed of sat at 18000 km
V2/V1 = sqrt(GM/R2) / sqrt(GM/R1)
V2/V1 = sqrt(R1/R2)
but this is distance to the center of the earth, not altitude. We
have to add 6371 km
V1/V2 = sqrt[ (18000+6371) / (5700+6371) ]
V1/V2 = sqrt[ (24371) / (12071) ]
V1/V2 = 2.02
1st satellite is faster which velocity is faster ie V1
by 2.02 factor

Many satellites orbit Earth at maximum altitudes above Earth's surface of 1000 km or less. Geosynchronous satellites, however, orbit at an altitude of 35790 km above Earth's surface. How much more energy is required to launch a 415 kg satellite into a geosynchronous orbit than into an orbit 1000 km above the surface of Earth?
Two satellites are in circular orbits around the earth. The orbit for satellite A is at a height of 502 km above the earth’s surface, while that for satellite B is at a height of 747 km. Find the orbital speed for (a) satellite A and (b) satellite B.
Two satellites are in circular orbits around the earth. The orbit for satellite A is at a height of 460 km above the earth’s surface, while that for satellite B is at a height of 774 km. Find the orbital speed for (a) satellite A and (b) satellite B.
Two satellites are in circular orbits around the earth. The orbit for satellite A is at a height of 364 km above the earth's surface, while that for satellite B is at a height of 880. km. Find the orbital speed for satellite A and satellite B. (a) VA = (b) VB =
Two satellites A and B are moving in the same circular orbit around the Earth. Mass of satellite A is twice the mass of satellite B. Compare the speed of the two satellites. (a) The speed of B is twice the speed of A (b) The speed of B is half the speed of A (c) The speed of B is one-fourth the speed of A (d) The speed of B is equal to the speed of A (e) Cannot...
Many communication satellites are placed in a circular orbit around the Earth at a radius where the period (the time to go around the Earth once) is 24 hours. If the satellite is above some point on the equator, it stays above that point as the Earth rotates, so that as viewed from the rotating Earth the satellite appears to be motionless. That is why you see dish antennas pointing at a "fixed" point in space. (a) Calculate the radius...
A geosynchronous orbit is a high-Earth orbit that allows satellites to match Earth's rotation. There is a 500-kg satellite working on the geosynchronous orbit. If this satellite transfers to a new orbit with half the height of the geosynchronous orbit, find (a) the height of the new orbit, (b) percentage change of the radius of the satellite orbit.
Two identical satellites orbit the earth in stable orbits. One satellite orbits with a speed v at a distance r from the center of the earth. The second satellite travels at a speed that is less than v.At what distance from the center of the earth does the second satellite orbit?At a distance that is less than r.At a distance equal to r.At a distance greater than r.Now assume that a satellite of mass m is orbiting the earth at a distance...
4. Two satellites (equal in mass) are in a circular orbit around the Earth. Satellite 1 is traveling at constant velocity vi. Satellite B is traveling at constant veloci v2. If Satellite A is at a distance ri from the Earth's center, the distance from Satellite B to the Earth's center is A), Vi
