You are an entrepreneur who has developed a packaging technology that instantly chills single-serving containers of cold beverages such as beer, carbonated drinks, and fruit juices. The customers of such packaging, therefore, would be beverage-makers. You are not certain whether your technology is patentable. Using the seven domains framework, assess this opportunity and describe any strategic decisions you could make to maximize the opportunity’s attractiveness, in your own words.

Answer #1

At the micro-level, This venture will be more successful if they narrow their market segment to beer-makers instead of all beverage-makers. There is no rivalry among present competitors in this industry; However, producers of ice pose a threat as a substitute product. Therefore, it would be wise to target the beer-industry since not many people pour beer into a glass of ice. So by focusing on a specific market within the beverage industry (beer-makers) the opportunity has a stronger chance of gaining foothold in the market.

Since there are currently no competitors that have the same packaging technology to instantly chill beverages, the prospect of this venture is very attractive. However, since it is uncertain if the technology is patentable, new entrants into the market could pose a threat. Before moving forward, I would make sure the technology is patentable.
