  • The most common cause of hyperthyroidism is Grave's disease which is an autoimmune disorder in which antibodies are produced that bind to the TSH receptor
  • instead of destroying the follicle cells,the antibodies act as agnosists,stimulating the receptor to cause synthesis of T3 and T4, and the cells also proliferate.
  • Negative feedback inhibtion is increased and the levels of TRH and TSH is decreased..
  • Measurment of low TSH level is the key diagnostic for hyperthyroidism
