From balanced reaction:

2Mg(s) + O2(g) ---------> 2MgO(s) + energy

(molar mass) 24.3g/mol 32.0 g/mol 40.3g/mol

From above reaction,

40.3 g of MgO formed after reaction with 32.0 g of oxygen

So, oxygen required for the formation of 0.625 g of MgO

= 0.625 x 32.0 / 40.3

= 20.0/40.3

= 0.496g of oxygen.
