When, NaOH is added to benzoic acid and sodium benzoate buffer solution,

the NaOH reacts with benzoic acid to give sodium benzoate. Thus, the concentration of sodium benzoate increases and concentration of benzoic acid decreases in the buffer solution.

C6H5COOH(aq) + NaOH(aq) ----------------> C6H5COONa(aq) + H2O(l) [Molecular equation]

C6H5COO-(aq) + H+(aq) + Na+(aq) + OH-(aq) ----------------> C6H5COO-(aq) + Na+(aq) + H2O(l) [Complete ionic equation]

H+(aq) + OH-(aq) ----------------> H2O(l) [Net ionic equation]
