Hybrid costing system is a combination of process costing and job costing. It allocates common costs for all units of service or product outputs and specific cost to particular unit of products or services.
The homeless shelter homes provides various services to the inmates. Out of theses services, majority of services are provided to all of the inmates, but some of the specific services are provided to specific inmates only. The hybrid costing system identifies these general expenses and specific expenses and provide proper accounting for them. General expenses provided to all of the inmates are food, shelter , other necessities and normal nursing care. These are equally allocated to all inmates. Specific expenses for specific inmates includes special medical treatments or therapy provided to specific person. It is allocated to particular persons only.
