Answer #1

1. Benzene= 40%

this indicates mass of benene = 40 X 78 (where 78 is mass of benzene)

= 3120g

Toulene = 60%

this indicates mass of toulene = 60 X 92 (where 92 is mass of toulene)

= 5520g

massfraction of benzene = mass of benene/ total mass

= 3120/(3120+5520) = 0.361

massfraction of toulene = mass of toulene/ total mass

= 5520/(3120+5520) = 0.639

    Q3 An equimolar binary liquid solution of benzene and toluene is to be separated by rectification in a plate column at atmospheric pressure. The feed is 60 mol percent vapor 40 mole percent liquid and flow rate of feed is 300 kmol/h. It is suggested to operate the column at a reflux ratio 1.7 times its minimum value. The top product should contain 95% benzene and 4 % of the benzene in the feed is loss in to the bottom...
