Answer #1

The valence electrons are the electrons in the outer shell of an atom. The valence electrons are the ones involved in forming bonds to adjacent atoms. The number of electrons in neutral atoms can be found out by an easier way below

Number of valence electrons in a neutral atom = main group number

  1. Ca is in 2 nd group. So its valence electron =2
  2. C is a 4 th group element. Therefore its valence electron=4
  3. Cl is in 7 th group. Its valence electron =7
  4. Ar is in 8 th group. Its valence electron =8
