It has happened because of many reasons. The first reason is that neighbor countries are the big markets for the goods and services produced in the country that are exported to them. So, softening the stance on border security and immigration has helped to increase the presence in these neighboring countries and get their strategic support at world forum. The second reason is the need of higher purchasing power of the people in these overseas markets to buy the goods produced in the USA. The purchasing power will only increase when they come to the USA, work in USA and send the money (Factor income) back to their country. It is one of the source that is fueling the economy of countries like Mexico. The third reason is the close trade tie ups and strategic cooperation such as NAFTA that has caused conflicting issues not to be discussed with the same aggression as before.
