When employer set clear list of objectives of performance appraisal it will help them to gain the competitive advantage over others. This help managers to make more rational decisions regarding overall organizational development. The objectives should be S.M.A.R.T. (specific, measurable, achievable or realistic, relevant and timely). Some objectives of performance appraisal are as follows-

1. Helps in career development

2. Training and development given to employees on basis of performance appraisal

3. Feedback about performance

4. Motivate employees

5. Appraisal should be fair and justified

6. Basis on merit rating of employees performance

7. To raise salary and allowance, employers do performance appraisal and basis of that they decide how much increment in the salary is given to employee.

8. It make employee feel valued

9. Set new goals for the other employees

10. Strengthen bond between employer and employee

11. Resolve grievances

12. Oversight on current projects

13. Access the training needs of subordinates

14. Help mangers in assigning future jobs to employees
