Question
Geotechnical square foundation design
1. A square footing is subjected to a vertical load of 50,000 lbs and a moment of 25,000 lb-ft. The depth of the foundation is 4 ft. The water table is at the base of the footing. The soil above the base of the footing has y-100 pcf and a friction angle of 30°. The soil below the base of the footing has a Ysat 120 pcf, a friction angle of 20° and c-100 psf. Find the size of the footing? And also the tilt of the footing?

Q.2 (12 Marks) An owner of a ceramic tile factory contacted a Geotechnical consultant to design foundation of the tall chimney to take care of flue gases formed during the tiles production. As per design of the Geotechnical Engineer, the chimney should have a square footing of 3.0 m side constructed at a depth of 2.50 m in the sub soil. It was found from the results of the laboratory test on the sample of sub-soil that the shear strength...
