According to hookes law,Force is directly proportional to compressed length,

Force can be replaced with weight in this case.

W1/W2=X1/X2;

where W1 is first baby weight=7.5 pounds.

X1 is first compressed length=6 millimeters

X2 is next compressed length=5 millimeters

From above formula we can say that

W2=(W1 x X2) /X1

so,W2=(7.5 x 5) /6

=37.5/6

=6.25 pounds.

Hence the weight of the baby that compresses the string by 5 millimeters is 6.2 pounds.
