A box placed on a inclined surface is held at rest by a rope (see figure). There is friction between the box and the surface.

If the box has mass 5.4 kg, the ramp angle is 29.3 degrees, and the coefficients of friction are LaTeX: \mu_S= μ S = 0.39 and LaTeX: \mu_k= μ k = 0.28, then calculate the magnitude of the friction force (in N).

F = us mg cos x

F = 0.39* 5.4* 9.8 cos 29.3

F = 18 N
