Atom will lose energy if the transition is from higher state to lower state i e, nni. Atom will gain energy if the transition

Hence the transitions can be marked as follows, 72.-4- n,-2 atom loses n. = 7 → n-4 → atom loses m, 2n5 atom gains n-3n6 atom
