Answer #1

Beta decay is a radioactive disintegration process where unstable nulclei release excess energy and spontaneously change in one unit positive charge, without any change in the mass number.

If X is radioactive element, and A and Z are mass and atomic number repectively then,

AXz \rightarrowAXz+1 + Beta + Energy

Now when yttrium-90 (atomic number - 39) decay beta partile its atomic number increases by 1 to 40, which is zirconium.

90Y39 \rightarrow90Zr40 + Beta (0 e -1)

please help i cant figure them out Consider the insoluble compound nickel(II) carbonate, NiCO3. The nickel ion also forms a complex with cyanide ions. Write a net ionic equation to show why the solubility of NiCO3(s) increases in the presence of cyanide and calculate the equilibrium constant for this reaction. Solubility product constant data is found in the Chemistry References. For Ni(CN)4?: K = 2.0 1031. Use the pull-down boxes to specify states such as (aq) or (s). A solution...

As you are an intelligent chemist and you've been doing this long enough to understand some fundamental aspects of safety when mixing/cooking chemicals etc., you decide before you begin this process, to place your reactants and the associated glassware under the vacuum hood just to be on the safe side. Based on your chemical equation above, is there a gas emanating from this reaction and if so, what gas is going...

Purpose: To calculate the amount of AgNO3 present in an unknown solution of water through the process of gravimetric analysis with NaCl.   Background: Have you ever had difficulty lathering soap or find that the scum in your shower constantly needs to be removed? These are signs of “hard water.” Soap does not lather well in hard water because metal ions, such as Ca2+, form precipitates, creating “soap scum.” A precipitate is an insoluble compound that forms when soluble ions in...
