Answer #1

Child welfare in the United States is characterized by numerous and complex problems, such as increasing difficulties to serve the client population, rising caseloads, and soaring costs of out-of-home care.. Further, shifts in federal policy point toward curtailed child welfare spending and dispersed responsibility among states and counties for child welfare services. In the face of these changes, state and local child welfare agencies, as well as community-based organizations that provide child welfare services, are apt to find meeting the needs of vulnerable children and families exceedingly difficult. The current situation in child welfare therefore suggests that both system reforms and private philanthropy are requisites for an improved public child welfare system. Yet child welfare researchers and professionals arguably have attempted few orchestrated efforts to ensure that service delivery is consistent with the aims of contemporary child welfare. By reviewing child welfare policy and trends in the United States, this article aims to stimulate discussion about innovative approaches that could allow child welfare professionals, both in the US and internationally, to more effectively and efficiently meet the needs of children and families. The public child welfare service system in the United States is a continuum of programs and services available to children who are at risk of abuse or neglect, or who have experienced abuse or neglect, and their families. Accordingly, the primary goal of the child welfare system is to protect children from maltreatment by their parents or other caregivers. The child welfare system also strives to support families by promoting the obligations of parents and caregivers to raise children to the best of their abilities. CWLA is a powerful coalition of hundreds of private and public agencies that since 1920 has worked to serve children and families who are vulnerable. Their expertise, leadership and innovation on policies, programs, and practices help improve the lives of millions of children across the country. Their impact is felt worldwide.CWLA leads and engages its network of public and private agencies and partners to advance policies, best practices and collaborative strategies that result in better outcomes for children, youth and families that are vulnerable. I feel the child welfare systems in my states are more or less the same as in the entire USA. the only exception being the heavy amount of funding is not received in my region but it does exist other places surely. The only way to improve this scenario is to aim at provisions for a better awareness and inclusion of the state and federal government in this issue and ask for assistance of one and all in order to aim for a better society filled with empowered youth.
