(a) Total displacement between 4 s and 8 s

= Area under the curve between this time period

= ( 1 / 2 ) x ( 6 - 4 ) s x 8 m / s + ( 1 / 2 ) x ( 8 - 6 ) s x ( - 3 ) m / s

= 8 m - 3 m = 5 m.

So, the average velocity between 4 s and 8 s, i.e., in the time ( 8 - 4 ) s = 4 s is : 5 m / 4 s = 1.25 m / s.

The object is decelerating between 4 s and 10 s.

(b) The object remains at rest at 6 s and at 12 s.
