Answer = Steps of instilling of eye drops =

Eye instillation = A process of administer eye drops.

Purpose = - Diagnostic ( Fundoscopy ) , Therapeutic and Prevent infection .

Steps of Eye instillation =

Position of patient = Supine/ sitting with tilt the head in backward.

- Discard the first drops before instillation.

- Instruct to patient for look up and backward.

* Site selection = Lower conjunctiva or lower eye lid for eye drops.

- For ointment - Inner canthus to outer canthus.

* 2 - 2.5 cm Height of droper maintain by nurse during Instill eye drop.

Ear drop instillation - Instill the medication into the ear called Ear instillation.

Purpose =

- To facilitate removal of cerumen or foreign body and improve hearing.

Steps = Hold the Ear pinna .

Position = Lateral just opposite of the affected ear.

Adult = Hold the ear pinna with the non dominent hand, strengthen the external ear cannal by gently pulling upward and backwardon the ear of adult.

Q. Answer a ) = Ear drops insillation into a 2 years child.

Position = Lateral just opposite of the affected ear.

Hold the medication bottle between hands for 1-2 minute to warm drops before administering.

- Hold the pinna downward and backward and instill the medication.

- Pump tragus by pushing on the flap of skin protecting the ear canal five to six times to ensure drops reach eardrum.
