  • Electroconvulsive therapy is used to treat severe depression,when a patient doesnt respond to any medications.It is a painless medical procedure,using general anesthesia,by delivering a electrical stimulation through the brain to induce a seizure,which is supposedly helpful to relief the depressive symptoms.The seizure caused is controlled by medications so that the patient's body doesnt move.Generally,6-12 sessions are conducted 2-3 times per week over a period of several weeks.
