Ans. During free flight motion the airplane moves with two components of the Velocity.

Vertical component of velocity is called climb speed and horizontal component of the velocity is constant during free flight motion.

This component will give us range of airplane.

From equation of motion we see that local horizontal component of the velocity with time will give us distance travelled by airplane i.e Range.

Hence option 1 is correct.

Option 2 is incorrect because g is acceleration due to gravity. It is vertically downward. Airplane always experience gravity force.

Option 3 is incorrect because if horizontal component of the velocity becomes zero then there will not be any distance travelled by airplane. It means airplane is stationary and at rest. It will not be possible case for free flight motion.

Option 4 is also incorrect because g/2 also represents acceleration due to gravity which always acts downwards.
