Question: What are the different types of Networks shown/displayed in the following situations below:

1. Somebody working from home using a microcomputer, a DSL modem, and a telephone connection to the internet. In this case, the individuals business is connected to the internet and has local area networks and a mainframe computer.

2. Somebody is at a hotel and has accessed their email on their computer which is connected to the wireless network in the hotel.

3. A traveler has rented a car and they are using the built-in navigational system for driving directions

Part a:

Since, the micro computer, DSL Modem, telephone, Mainframe computer are

connected locally only, this is an example of Local Area Network or LAN, which is nothing

but a kind of network in which all the devices are connected locally, within 5-10kms

of radius. It can also be treated as Campus Area Network.

Part b:

Since the hotel wireless is a router, and is connected to internet, which is

a network of networks, and contains huge number of systems and are widely connected,

this is an example of Wide Area Network or WAN and also an example of network cloud.

Part c:

Since the traveller is on-the-go, and has no computer of mobile network, his car's

navigational system is working with the help of satellite network, Hence its an

example of Satellite and Microwave network.
