Answer #1

2. The graph of f(x) = x3 + x - 1 is given below

10 (2, 9) 5- 7(1,1) 10 -ܪ 0 5 10 (0, =1) .-5 .-10-.

Now we know that the inverse of a function switches the x and y coordinates of an ordered pair from the original function.

So y-values of the inverse function will be treated as x-values of the given function.

So we have,

y = 0 implies (x, y) = (-1, 0)

y = 1 implies (x, y) = (1, 1)

y = 2 implies (x, y) = (9, 2)

3. The graph of f(x) = x4 + 9x + 4 is given below

10 (19) -5- -5 0 5 (0,-1) -5- (-1,-9) -10-.

Now we know that the inverse of a function switches the x and y coordinates of an ordered pair from the original function.

So y-values of the inverse function will be treated as x-values of the given function.

So we have,

y = -1 implies, (x, y) = (-9, -1)

y = 0 implies, (x, y) = (-1, 0)

y = 1 implies, (x, y) = (9, 1)
