1. The life span of 100 W light bulbs manufactured by a particular company follows a normal distribution with a standard deviation of 120 hours, and its average life time is guaranteed for a minimum of 800 hours. A delivery of 10,000 of light bulbs is sent to a wholesale store, and the quality control staff in the store randomly selected 50 bulbs to test the life time. The average life time of the sample is found out to be 760 hours, with a standard deviation of 145 hours.

(1)  What are the sample and population of the study? (Please describe in context words for the specific study, don’t use general definition).

A company manufactures light bulbs. The company wants the bulbs to have a mean life span of 991 hours. This average is maintained by periodically testing random samples of 16 light bulbs. If the t-value falls between -t0.95 and t0.95, then the company will be satisfied that it is manufacturing acceptable light bulbs. For a random sample, the mean life span of the sample is 999 hours and the standard deviation is 22 hours. Assume that life spans are approximately...

A manufacturer of light bulbs advertises that, on average, its long-life bulb will last more than 5500hours. To test this claim, a statistician took a random sample of 90 bulbs and measured the amount of time until each bulb burned out. The mean lifetime of the sample of bulbs is 5551 hours and has a standard deviation of 420 hours. Can we conclude with 99% confidence that the claim is true? Fill in the requested information below. An electrical firm manufactures light bulbs that have a length of life that is approximately normally distributed with a standard deviation of 40 hours. If a sample of 30 bulbs has an average life of 780 hours, find a 96% confidence interval for the population mean of all bulbs produced by this firm. How large a sample is needed if we wish to be 96% confident that our sample mean will be within 10 hours of the true mean?

    9. (10 pts.) A manufacturer of light bulbs claims that the average lifespan of their light bulbs is at least 1600 hours. A sample of 100 light bulbs finds an average lifetime of 1570 hours with a standard deviation of 120 hours. If a one-sided confidence interval is considered, is the claim justified if a 95% confidence level is used?
