It was Monica's motherly care and concerns, specifically her cries and prays, which prevented Augustine's stubbornness, stupidity, and blatant sin from ruining His life. It is important to note that when Augustine started deviating from desirable forms of behaviours and fled for Rome, Monica embarked on a relentless quest for Her son. She took Her parental issues to God and prayed, fasted, and wept over Her son’s obstinate behaviours. She was then consoled by a bishop who said, “the child of those tears shall never perish.” It is important to know that due to Monica's perseverance, Augustine converted to Christianity under St. Ambrose, bishop of Milan, post 17 long years.
