We did a quality control test on a candy company that claims their bags contain 341 grams of candy. 17 bags of candy were tested and it is found that the average amount of candy in the bags is 340.5 grams with a standard deviation of 1.5 grams. we want to test the claim that the company is underfilling its candy bags. (assume population is normally distributed if needed).

i) state the null and alternative hypothesis you would use to test the claim

ii) calculate the observed value of the test statistic. state the distribution used (and the degrees of freedom if relevant).

iii) compute the p-value or provide a range of appropriate values for the p-value and state your conclusions on if the company is underfilling its bags using a significance level of α = 0.05.

iv) suppose a 99% confidence interval for the average amount of candy in bags is calculated to be (399.56, 341.44). using this confidence interval is it reasonable to say that the average is different from 341 grams?
