A train leaves Philadelphia at 3:00pm. A sexond train leaves the same city in the same direction at 9:00pm. the second train travels 120 mph faster than the first. If the second train overtakes the first at 11:00pm, what is the speed of each of the two trains?
Let speed of fast train is x mph
Speed of second train is x + 120 mph
Fast train travels (11 - 3) = 8 hour
2nd train travel (11 - 9) = 2 hour
According to the question
Distance travelled by first train in 8 hour = distance travelled by second into hour.
so, 8x = 2(x+120)
or, 8x = 2x +240
or, 8x - 2x = 240
or, 6x = 240
or, x = 40 [divide both side by 6]
Speed of fast train is 40 mph
Speed of second train is (40 + 120 )=160 mph

Two trains are traveling on the same track and in the same direction. The first train, which is behind the second train, blows a horn whose frequency is 266 Hz. The second train detects a frequency of 284 Hz. If the speed of the second train is 13.8 m/s, what is the speed of the first train?
Two trains are traveling on the same track and in the same
direction. The first train, which is behind the second train, blows
a horn whose frequency is 269 Hz. The second train detects a
frequency of 290 Hz. If the speed of the second train is 13.7 m/s,
what is the speed of the first train?
I used the following equation and set Fo to 290Hz and Fs to
269hz. + on top and - on bottom. I figured...
is catcher's glove? d) What the ball 40 m above the ground? its velocity after 1.5s! e) What is its heignt alter 71 12. (4 pts) Two locomotives are traveling in the same direction on parallel tracks. The first has a speed of 60 mph relative to the ground. The second has a speed of 40 mph and is ahead. If the trains are 45 miles apart, in how much time will the faster train pass the slower train?
Solve the following using the 5-step process. The speed of a freight train is 75 mph slower than the speed of a passenger train. The freight train travels 340 miles in the same time that it takes the passenger train to travel 490 miles. Find the speed of each train. Instructions: Enter your answer as a whole number, fraction, or radical. When entering units, type without capitals e.g. mph, feet, meters, yards, etc. The freight train is travelling at Number...
Two trains leave towns 1120 kilometers apart at the same time and travel toward each other. One train travels 18 km hours, what is the rate of each train? faster than the other. If they meet in 4 Note that the ALEKS graphing calculator can be used to make computations easier. Rate of the faster train: = X 5 ? Rate of the slower train: =
two trains are moving away from each other. The First train travels at 180kph while the second 195kph. The first train emits a sound of frequency 970 hz. What is the frequency of the sound perceived by a passenger in the second train?
A train on one track moves in the same direction as a second train on the adjacent track. The first train, which is ahead of the second train and moves with a speed of 36.4 m/s, blows a horn whose frequency is 123 Hz. Part A If the frequency heard on the second train is 134 Hz , what is its speed?

1.2 A non-stop freight train leaves Edinburgh for London at 6:00 and travels at a steady 75mph (time taken to accelerate is negligible) for the 332 miles. A passenger train leaves at 7:00 and travels at 126 mph (again time taken to accelerate is minimal) however it stops every SOmins for a period of 10 minutes before continuing In a table show the distance that each train has travelled at each hour into the journeys Plot...
Two trains leave Union station at the same time. The first train is travelling on a track with bearing 116º at 95 km/h. The second train is travelling on a track with bearing 271º at 80km/h. Determine the distance between the trains 3 hours after they leave the station.
A train: A enters a train station with constant speed of .00 m/s while another train B leaves the train station with constant speed of 4.00 m/s. At a moment they are both at the same distance of 1 km from the train station they whistle two identical sounds of 400. Hz with acoustic power of 70.0 W each.
