Answer #1

A flow with free surface is known as open channel flow, where the pressure exerting will be same throughout the flow(atmospheric pressure when the fluid is water). Here the flow takesplace only due to the gravity force.

Froudes number is the square root of ratio of inertia force to gravity force. Froudes number model is used only when the gravitational force is predominant.

Hence the answer is option b- open channel flow is with a free surface and the flow is driven by gravity

Open channel flow must have a surface. Because of the free surface, is the driving force in open channel flow. The application of the equation is most effective to estimate the rapid loss of energy when determining the shape of flow profiles for Rapidly varied flow. Flow in open channels is mainly in the regime. Depth of Flow (y or d) – is the vertical distance of the lowest point of a channel section from the surface. In slope is...

An aqueduct is an open water channel on top of a support bridge. The bridge maintains a shallow slope to use gravity to carry water (p = 1000 kg/m”, u = 10-3 Pa.s) over long distances from a reservoir to a community. The aqueduct shown below has a rectangular cross section, as shown in section A-A, with width W = 1.2 m. The water level in the duct is a constant d = 1 m over the entire length of...
